BlueMotion Technologies Explained
Highly skilled engineers have designed BlueMotion technologies to reduce the impact cars are having on the environment. Volkswagen is promoting a sustainable future with the implementation of such technologies. They are helping both your bank balance and the impact drivers are having on the environment.
The new BlueMotion vehicles are aerodynamically designed and elegantly sculpted to reduce drag. The streamlined body optimises fuel consumption helping to reduce running costs. The athletic stance of the new models encases the BlueMotion technology effortlessly allowing these cars to glide along the roads.
BlueMotion technology embraces advanced TDI and TSI engines, complete with DSG dual-clutch gearboxes.
- TDI Engines:
- Turbocharged Direct Injection diesel engine
- Longer gear ratios, improving fuel economy
- New engine management software
- Diesel Particulate Filter reduces CO2 emissions
- TSI Engines:
- Smaller, lighter and more efficient than regular petrol engines
- Direct Petrol Injection combined a turbocharger
- High torque delivers smooth, enjoyable drive
- DSG dual-clutch gearbox:
- Available in 6 and 7 – speed versions
- Double clutches controlled electronically enabling smooth gear changes
- Improves fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions
BlueMotion embodies many energy saving technologies that work in unity with the advanced engines and gearboxes. These technologies reduce the cost of running your car and the impact driving has on the environment.
Not all of the technologies described below will be available on all our BlueMotion cars. If you want to find out more about a specific model please visit the new cars section of our website, refer to the brochure, or talk to one of our dealers.
Volkswagen Energy Recuperation
VW have incorporated an energy management system into some of their vehicles. The system captures kinetic energy produced during braking. The energy is stored and utilised by the alternator to add extra charge to the battery. This energy can then aid the alternator during acceleration. The recuperation system reduces the strain on the alternator to reduce fuel consumption.
Fuel Saving Tyres
Low rolling resistance tyres are fitted to BlueMotion vehicles to save fuel and lower CO2 emissions. These tyres require less engine power to offer a supreme driving performance.
BlueMotion Gear ratios
The longer gear ratios for the higher gears reduce consumption. That illustrates that manual gearboxes with optimised gear ratios are another way of saving fuel. Some BlueMotion models offer an intelligent engine management system. The system indicates the gear required for the speed you are travelling. The multifunctional display recommends the gear required for greater efficiency.
